JFKSBY Tarot Card Concepts
on the Cards as a Whole:
A card is strong or weak, well dignified or ill dignified, according to the cards next to it on either side.
Cards of the same suit on either side strengthen it greatly, for good or evil according to their nature.
Cards of opposite natures on either side weaken it greatly, for either good or evil.
Swords are unfriendly to Disks.
Wands are unfriendly to Cups.
Swords are friendly with Cups and Wands.
Wands are friendly with Swords and Disks.
If a card should fall between two others which are mutually contrary, it is not much affected by either (it all cancels out).
O THE FOOL
The expression “From out of Left Field” suits this card well as it most often represents a subtle, sudden impulse born from originality that comes from an unusual place relative to you. When regarding spiritual matters, this card is the Idea or Thought that eclipses the Physical Realm. In Material Matters, this card may indicate indiscretion, silliness, and irrationality depending on the other cards in play.
I THE MAGUS
Craft, theft, skill, wisdom. A sudden idea. Accumulation of Occult Wisdom. Can sometimes refer to messages, business matters, and interference of learning with the issue in question.
II THE HIGH PRIESTESS
Pure grace and exalted influence greet the issue. Change, increase and decrease, flux. Unless one pays attention, one could be “put over the moon” and led away by enthusiasm. Balance must be held.
III THE EMPRESS
Love, beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, completion, good fortune, graciousness, elegance, luxury, idleness, dissipation, debauchery, friendship, gentleness, delight.
IV THE EMPEROR
War, strife, conquest, ambition, victory, originality, over-weening confidence and megalomania, quarrelsomeness, vigor, stubbornness, energy, rashness, bad temper, impracticality.
V THE HIEROPHANT
Toil, endurance, placidity, stubborn strength, explanation, manifestation, teaching, help from superiors, organization, peace, patience, goodness of heart.
VI THE LOVERS
Second Sight, intelligence, intuition, childishness, frivolity, indecision, self-contradiction, openness to inspiration, thoughtfulness thoroughly divorced from practicality.
VII THE CHARIOT
Hope, victory, memory, triumph, digestion, obedience, fitfully ruthless, faithfulness, authority under authority, violence in maintain tradition.
Suspension of all action pending a decision, Justice, the actual act of adjustment. Material Issues: law suits or prosecutions. Social Issues: marriage or nuptial arrangements. Political Issues: treaties.
IX THE HERMIT
Wisdom from on high. Active divine inspiration. Sometimes "unexpected current."
Good fortune, happiness (within bounds). Intoxication of success.
Courage, strength, fortitude, power passing on to action. Obstinacy.
Enforced sacrifice, punishment, loss, fatal and not voluntary, suffering, death, defeat.
Time, age, transformation, change involuntary, or death (illusory), destruction (illusory), sensible development of the current situation.
XIV THE ART
Combination of forces, realization, action (material effect, good or evil).
XV THE DEVIL
Materiality, material force, material temptation, obsession, victory of Material of Spiritual.
XVI THE TOWER
Ambition, sudden violent change, fighting, war, courage, or destruction, danger, fall, ruin.
XVII THE STAR
Hope, faith, unexpected help. Or dreaminess, deceived hope, etc.
XVIII THE MOON
Dissatisfaction, voluntary change. Error, lying, falsity, deception. This card is very sensitive to dignity.
XIX THE SUN
Glory, gain, riches. With "ill-dignified" cards it means arrogance, display, vanity.
XX THE ERA
Final decision, judgment, sentence, determination of a matter without appeal, "on its plane."
XXI THE UNIVERSE
The matter itself. Synthesis, world, kingdom. Usually denotes actual subject of question, and therefore depends entirely on accompanying cards.
